Mariana Vargas has received the @prior_artcollections award, formed by @delarco_artcollection and @cuperior_collection, presented at the By invitation event at @circulo_ecuestre. This recognition holds deep symbolic value, as it represents a strong support in the fight to break the silence surrounding abuses of power, an issue also presented within the art world.
The awarded piece is part of “La Tribu,” a series of powerful masks accompanied by the stories of fellow artists, curators, and managers who have experienced violence. Masks that serve both to conceal and reveal. Through this work, Mariana explores ritual, performance, healing, resilience, denunciation, and the ¨breaking of silence¨.
This piece is part of the project #anonymouswasawoman, inspired by Virginia Woolf, who wrote: “I would venture to guess that Anonymous, who wrote so many poems without signing them, was often a woman.”
Mariana, your courage and art continue to light the way for greater justice in art and beyond.
Mariana Vargas holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Granada and a Master’s in Art Production and Research. Her work, influenced by classical iconography, the sacred, and mythology, is characterized by a feminist perspective that permeates her monumental sculptures. The artist dedicates long periods to historical research before creating her pieces, which address themes such as violence, sexuality, love, and identity. Her neobaroque style and work, rich in revisionist symbolism, explore a new concept of hybrid and monstrous beauty. She has participated in fairs such as ARCO and Zona Maco, and her work is part of prominent public collections. She currently lives and works between Madrid and Granada.
